You may have heard recently that there has been a suspected case of Alabama Rot in East Sussex.
The cause of this disease is as yet unknown but it is important that all dog owners are aware of what to look for and seek veterinary advice if you are at all worried.
Bathing your dog if they get muddy or wet after walking may help but there is no proof at this stage if it does.
Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists, who specialise in Alabama Rot cases have kindly provided a pet owner information sheet.
There is also a dedicated website www.alabamarot.co.uk with a UK incidence map.
It is important to remember that although Alabama Rot is serious, the number of dogs affected with skin lesions and kidney failure remains low- 56 confirmed cases across the UK between Nov ’12 and May ’15
